FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM
This program is designed to attract qualified applicants in skilled trades who wish to obtain permanent residency in Canada. The applicant must have an offer of employment from one or up to two employers in Canada of at least one year duration or, a Certificate of Qualification from a provincial or territorial Apprenticeship Authority.
In Canada, provinces and territories issue Certificates of Qualification in the skilled trades. To get a certificate, the provincial or territorial trades authority must asses your trade experience and skills to decide if you are eligible to write an exam to be certified.
Under this category, there is no education requirement, although if you want to earn points for education under Express Entry you either need a Canadian post- secondary certificate, diploma or degree; or an educational credential assesment to show it is equal to Canadian education standards.

The minimum threshold requirement for language proficiency for FSTP applicants has been set at Canadian Language Benchmark level 5 for speaking and listening and CLB level 4 for reading and writing.

Skilled trades currently eligible for the program are organized under the following major groups:
- Industrial, electrical and construction trades.
- Maintenance and equipment operation trades.
- Supervisors and technical occupations in natural resources, agriculture and related production.
- Processing, manufacturing and utilites supervisors, and central control operators.
- Chefs and cooks.
- Butchers and bakers.
